Newalta Inc. Announces Planned Board Changes

CALGARY, ALBERTA – May 13, 2009 /CNW/ - Newalta Inc. ("Newalta") (TSX:NAL) today announced the planned retirements of Mr. Clayton Riddell and Mr. Felix Pardo from the Board of Directors of Newalta. Mr. Riddell has served on the Board since 1988 and is a past Chairman, and Mr. Pardo has served on the Board since 1991 and is also a past Chairman.

Newalta also announced the appointment of Ms. Susan Riddell Rose to Newalta's Board of Directors. Ms. Riddell Rose is President and Chief Executive Officer of Paramount Energy Operating Corp. and has overall responsibility for Paramount Energy Trust. She is a Director of Paramount Energy Operating Corp. and Paramount Resources Ltd.

Ms. Riddell Rose graduated from Queen's University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Geological Engineering. She is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta; the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists; and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.
